Muthurajawela Marsh - Saline Wetlands near Negombo

I visited the Muthurajawela Visitor Centre (074 830150) which has good displays and offers a two-hour guided boat ride which I took and thought was fabulous.  My guide was Sanath and we set off late afternoon from Hamilton Canal.  The canal system was built by the Portugese and extends from the port at Colombo right up to the enormous Negombo lagoon.  Over the centuries mother nature has turned Muthurajawela into Sri Lanka biggest saline wetland and the birding is terrific. Also had a party of grey langurs (primates), water monitors and a baby croc.
